language using bride and hearing groom. The wedding which was attended
by quite a number of community members, was between Clayton Adema

July 2007. The groom was captured on KTN fluently signing with her

Judith Mwikali and Adema |
This beautiful couple was joined in holy matrimony at the Agape
Fellowship Church in Langata last weekend on the 7th July 2007.
The groom Adema and the bride Judith Mwikali who is a sign language
user were one of the first couple to join marriage life publicly
with the support of the both parents and clear support from the
communties.
The beautiful bride is a businesswoman while the Groom work in
Nairobi. Both their parents were quoted as saying they have been
following the relationship for close to two years now and had
seen it worthy of their blessing.
In Kenya and many African countries, wedding between persons
living with sensory impairments and persons without are rare and
stigmatised by many communities.
Sign language using woman have also complained that in many cases
the man doies not want to make their relationship official for
fear that it would not work. Many were suprised by the quality
of sign language fluency of the groom. They say lack of commitment
to learing how to use sign language to the level you can effectively
communicate is the main barrier.
Love is increasingly is becoming stronger than disability in Kenya.
Love see no disability. This is good news because the old thinking
that a person with disability is not beautiful or marriage material
is long disappearing. The blessing of the church is significant.
Churches have been accused many a times of stigmatising people
with impairments.
Church wedding are increasingly common these days between people
living with various disabilities and people without disabilities.
may God bless this unique couple. and give them much prosperity
in their everyday lives....
