:: DISABILITY AGENDA IN RAILA ODINGA'S VISION:
Sunday 6th May 2007 say the Launch of one of the most elaborate
political Vision by ODM luminary Raila
Odinga tauted as the number one contender for the
"job of President to fall vacant later in the year."
One of the few aspirants for Parliamentary seat living with a
disability, Mr.
Phytalis Masakhwe was recently quoted as saying that
in His Vision Raila Odinga did not mention anything about the
Disability community.
If you were living with disability and have a voting card what
do you see in Raila
Odinga that would make you vote for him as the next
president of Kenya?
|
I wish to tender my application
for the position of president of the Republic of Kenya which
is to fall vacant later this year... |
Does the Bomas Constitution that
Raila Odinga rooted for amount to an adequate catering of the
disability agenda despite the fact that during the event the community
was represented in terms of communitcation inclusion?
The inclusion of disability agenda in the launch of the People's
President application for employment was evident in relation to
presentations by among others a person with disability Mr. Mbugua
wheeled to the elegant pondium to present his views of
why we should vote for Raila
Odinga during the coming Elections.
The Constitution Review
One of the greatest plus was in relation to the Constituional
Review. Though there are efforts currently being made, many dont
expect much out of the minimum reforms agenda. In his speech,
Hon. Raila rooted for the Bomas Draft.
The Bomas Draft and disability is extensive.
The Draft has quite a number of specific sections that enfranchise
the disability community extensively.
..."Infrustructure, infrustructure,
infrustructure..."
a) Housing The ODM-Kenya Presidential pledged
to build more housing in all the major towns and cities of the
country. The famous NARC dream of building 150,000 houses per
years has not come to fruition and maybe
c) Roads and Railway as an engineer
this may be his main projects if he were to become the Presdent.
He mentioned he would increased railway coverage above the current
level that has been constant since independence. He hopes to open
the Northern Kenya through new railway lines and road network
expand the transport system within and between town and cities.
Dual carriage road from Mombasa to Busia and upgrading various
airports to national or international level among them Wajir and
Kisumu.
d) ICT He showed the next level of leadership
by not only reading his speech from a Laptop but also promised
wider infrustructural investments in the sector but did not put
up any radical policy changes from what The current Government
is implementing.
Dual citizenship Raila Promised to implement
dual citizen ship to cater for the many kenyans in the disapora
who want to contribute to Kenyan development without lossing their
citizenship in the countries they are currently living.
Free education from primary
to secondary education which is also promised by the Kalonzo Musyoka.
The Current Government has started implementing this with a contribution
of Kshs. 3,500 to tuition in Secondary education beginning in
2008.
Parliamentary Government as expressed
in the Bomas Draft He promised to have a prime Ministerial Position
and a president with a strong parliament.
Gender equity he promised a fifty-fifty
