I AM PROUD TO BE KENYAN

NAJIVUNIA KUWA MKENYA.

Many of us disabled people i spoke to about this camapign did not agree with me that there was something the disabled could be proud with as kenyans. The understanding that to be kenyans you have to benefit from government is so widespread. many have the thinking that a Kenya is only s/he who has connections in government that is putting food into the table.

I may not refuse this perception or view. But i also believe that there is more to being a citizen of a country than what the country has made you. What have i done for my country than what the country has done for me. Do i need to do anything for my country? I have to be proud about it to see the importance of improving something about it.

At that time i may be proud maybe because i have the time and space to see something that needs fixing and think how to fix it, and actually fix it...

Many in somalia, sudan, and other war torn countries do not have this priviledge, yet they may also be blind, deaf, or physically challenged. But this is step two of fixing something in society.

When i do something for myself is the first step in doing something for my country...

when i go to school every step i make even though i may currently not have a wheel chair... are the baby steps into finishing school and an opportunity for a wheelchair. You never know who will see you out there...

Imagine a disabled collegue in Mogadishu or Baghdad!!!

Yet that is not an excuse for the apathy with which many leaders in government take the disabled in this country. There is neeed for more seriuos look at the the the totality of our perception of the needs and inclusion of the disabled. lets not talk only. Its a shame that donors fund more than 99% of the disability budget in a country that is proud to fund its budget without donor support! lets walk the talk.
