People with disabilities however confirm that
this is not the case.(8)
The clearly say they are discriminated(9)
against at all levels from family, local community to local and
national government. In fact Kenya despite the economic growth
has done poorly if measured on four basic principles of dignity,
equality, autonomy and inclusion.
People with disabilities are by virtue of
the impairment they live with; lack the choices that come
with a sufficient income, an education, good health and life
in a country that is governed by democratic institutions,
systems and environments. The socio-political environment
is made up of structures that favour able-bodied populations.

An inclusive development paradigm would build the diversity necessary
for rich wealth creation opportunities only if development is
designed with a universal access perspective. And it begins with
the massive infrastructural investments currently at planning
or implementation stage, including free education and health policies.
All public institutions, investments and social programme are
developed with specific participation opportunities for people
with various disabilities.
People are the real wealth of Nations(10),
and Kenya could increase its economic growth from 6% to double
digits, if the country enfranchised people with disabilities in
development programming. To achieve this within a growing democracy,
political participation(11)
that empowers inclusion into the electoral process opens real
opportunity that will define real choices.
