12. State of Disabled People’s Rights in Kenya says that 80% of disabled People say they have been segregated because of their disability. 74% reported being denied the rights to make decisions that affect them and 86% were treated unequally.

13. Disabilitykenya.org defines an adjustment as a voluntary or statutory change in the architecture of a service/facility to enable access by person with a limitation that may otherwise significantly deny functional access.

14. The Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey 2005-6 reports that 56% of Kenyans live in Poverty. Considering the level of social stigma and culture supported abuse against people with disabilities, living with impairments in rural Kenya as a dependant or a single parent breadwinner among the 21.9% of Kenyans households who live in hardcore poverty is heartrending.

15. Dr. Sam Tororei supports Kenya adopting adjustments similar the Yale/World Bank Typology which promotes specialized intervention adjustments according to three typology groups: Type 1: individuals with disability included as members of the general population requiring little or no additional adaptations or expense. (can use up to 80% of available structures facilities) Type 2: Individuals with disability included as members of general population with minor to moderate adaptations added as part of the outreach to the general population to ensure inclusion of those with disability. (21 – 59%). Type 3: Disability specific interventions targeting individuals who would otherwise not be reached (less than 21% of facilities and require new facilities).

16. The URAIA sponsored interactive NEWSLINE Civic Education Programme on (Kenya Television Network) KTN, which is also a first in integrating those of us with hearing impairments is a step in the right direction. It also provides the inclusive audience with an environment to debate national political matters well aware of the possibilities that come with equity.

17. The Manual on Disabilities and Inclusive Development for the Media and Social Communications Professionals; hints on communication and disabilities in the manual that was drawn up by the People School – Communication for Inclusion (Escola de Gente – Comunicação em Inclusão) for the World Bank in order to contribute to a more specific approach to the issue of Inclusive Development
