:: Congenitally Deafblind

These are born deafblind mainly due to German measles (Rubella), menengitis, encephalitis (inflamation of the brain), premature birth, birth injury or Down's Syndrome.

Deafblind persosn in this group are pre-lingually deaf. Which means that they acquired their hearing loss before the spoken language had developed. With the two main senses limited or non-functional they are left with the three remaining senses, smell, taste and touch. Of the remaining senses, touch always becomes the dominant developed to contact and communicate with the world.
