Disability is not Inability

:: Disabled lady poses nude in a Bristol 2007 calender to raise funds Source BBC radio.

A disabled person in Bristol is posing nude in a calender for 2007 to help her organisation raise funds. Daniel Loyds a librarian with a Bristol Library who is paralysed from waist down is pictured in the calender seated on a folded wheel chair without any clothes on.

"This is what we look like' she was quoted saying in an interview with the BBC radio. "many people do not get an opportunity to see our sexuality. Our body is equally beautiful inside the disability. This Calender she hopes will increase awareness not only on disability but also bring out the aspect of the sexuality of the disabled community.

How were you able to achieve this fete? first we saw another organisation who had done the same thing with a peson without disability. Our organisation Pulse Place wanted to do the same thing to raise awareness and raise funds. It is when we thought why not a disabled person posing in a calender.

"All My life from the time i was 13 or 14 years old, when i realised my disability my body has always been handled by many medical personell. Doctors, nurses, physiotherapists. All my life i have had to remove my clothes infront of different people who i do not know". she says. "From there it was not hard to pose without lothes infront of the photographer"

Do you think this will improve what among the disabled people and hteir sexuality? Many of us do not see any beauty within the disability. Physical body shape has traditionally defined beauty. So many disabled people have not realised any beauty can come out from a body that is deformed. This is a new thinking and attitude to our bodies as the disabled in the world. All over the world the Miss Disability peagant is an expression of beauty in the disability sector. The judges in making judgements must not only categorise each disability and the beauty it expresses.

The definition of beauty should be made on the grounds a category of disability. The deaf who have full physical body expression should be categorised differently from those with different physical body shapes.
The Miss Disability Peagent in 2003 was a good show that we cane build from. The winner the second and the third all had different attributes. Physical body shapes how ever determind to a larger extent than any other.

Miss Daniel Loyds weather we agree with her or not, may have made a statement in relation to sexuality of the disabled persons. many may begin to look at disability from a different view. disabilitykenya will be watching various beauty peagents to see directions in expressions of beauty in disability.
