Disability is not Inability

:: Free E-Books Programme
The Primary English book 1 is the first among a series of FREE ELECTRONIC BOOKS in sign language for children with hearing impairments. The Class one English book published on the website disabilitykenya.org with the objective of expanding free education to all children. It is published to supplement any other materials Special education teachers in schools for deaf children may have in order to meet the quality education guidelines.

The need for more Schools to have access to instruction materials in order to achieve the FREE EDUCATION programme objectives is affordably and sustainably achieved through the publishing of FREE electronic Books. They are increasingly becoming the only source of instruction materials as the cost of developing printed text books in sign language increasingly become prohibitive.

The demand for computers in primary schools is increasing, while the need to include relevant content in the computers best acheived through publishing Free E-Books. The Deaf use sign language as their mother tongue. Sign language is quite different from English or Kiswahili. These materials are developed in sign language and wriiten in English. The objective is not only to promote written English and Kiswahili skills but also reading and Signing skills necessary for a productive post education life in an increasing competitive Kenya.

The delivery of the instruction materials through a internet enabled computer is done within the widely expanding Rural ICT programme by the Government of President Mwai Kibaki. Information Communication technology will tremendously benefit those with various communication impairment to achieve what they cannot through the outgoing print books system.

The book are provided free and will be developed upto secondary and university education. The are and will be vital instructional materials for instruction both as primary Textbooks and supplementary resource materials.

computers provide more opportunites for more women with disabilities.
We wish to call upon companies managing the computers in Schools project in Kenya, the Private sector in general, the Ministry of Information and Communication and the ministry of Education to spearhead the expansion of computer based education in schools with children with special needs. Telkom wireless has rolled out its network into the rural areas and now internet is available in an increasingly large section of rural Kenya.

The potential of these children can significantly be improved through access to computers. To this end we wish to thank the many companies that through their effort have opened new opportunites for access to the internet in the rural Kenya. Telkom wireless coutrywide networkj expansion has now made it possible for special schools to have access to the internet.

We give thanks... disabilitykenya
