Disability is not Inability

The historic document THE DISABILITY MANIFESTO that stamps disability into political election politics was launched at KICC attended by who is who in the disability Taskforce Members and wider leadership and tents of diversity in disabilties in kenya on the Friday of 19th October.

The event was attended by participants from all walks of disability life and was punctuated by song and dance joined by many and led by His Majesty Mighty King Kong who is a musician living with disability and contesting for the Kasarani Parliamnetary seat in Nairobi.

Materials were distributed including both the Manifesto document itself and the popular version which is a beautiful calender.

Various political parties were present or sent their apologies including the Orange democratic Movement who was represented by Mwaura Isaac a NEC (National Executive Council) member and iss also a member of the taskforce. The Master of Ceremony was Vincent Oduor.

The Event which is part of a programme to expand the voter turnout in the 2007 general elections was funded under the Joint assistance programme managed by the UNDP and funded by a basket fund of about seven donors.

The UNDP was represented by Margie Cook, the Coordinator of the Programme and explained the importance of engaging the political system if the disability community was to achieve the onjects as stipulated in the Manifesto.

She also pledged support for the engagement process as the disabiltioy community puts what is in the manifesto into practice in the next five years.
