:: What sacrifices are involved?
Sacrifices are the blood shed by leaders in an
effort to whip the nation to where we need to go. Leaders must
shed their blood. This is figurative for heavens sake. But shedding
the blood means building character that would enable the leader
to forego the temptations that plague the country. This is the
process that gives birth to the servant of the people who makes
not self interest motivated decision…
| Should we give up EAC so that
we can have COMESA? For in every sacrifice targets a better
good. Should i sell the car to take
of the extended family now that.... |

There are those who do not support the current
effort to rebuild the East African community specifically because
of the approach our leaders are giving it. We need to take such
decisions to the citizens of the three states before the Presidents
sit and decide.
Secondly my myopic thinking sees the community’s
as an little fish whose cooking may not satisfy the needs of the
population. We may not realize the benefits quick enough to make
the efforts worthy. Africa needs outgrow the worship of colonial
boundaries if we are to make a leaping “catch up”
with the rest of the world.
As Kenya, we should be more serious with building
COMESA than bother with the East African community. The cost benefits
don’t add up. Its too costly to work out an east African
community verses the benefits we would derive from it. Working
hard should be on Comesa that can give the benefits of dealing
with security regional issues in the great lakes…
Some would say the East African is a good stepping
stone to Comesa. That’s the kind of sacrifices we are talking
about. Kenya should be more worried about a Somalia government
joining Comesa, than Tanzania. Such sacrifices are the pragmatic
necessities of leadership.
