This thinking out of the box requires much reading
and research. It enables building skills not common in your community.
It involves discipline and patience
even with various stakeholders as they express positions that
may be opposite or conflicting. But necessary to be able to construct
where we need to go.
It will also help the leader to identify and
construct the values that build and destroy the
community. These values a leader need to believe practice them
first for the community to experience them. For only after they
see these values in you would they put them on.

Its then that you can successfully implement legislation that
punishes corruption. That hard work would be appreciated as they
learn hard work from you. Such training and practice involve sacrifices
necessary to your leadership to be accepted.
The character that is built by such sacrifices
are also the building blocks for the values that would express
the power required to rid the community its evils and build the
governance structures necessary to mobilize beneficial but painful
reforms.
After identifying where
we need to go there of course has to be indicators
of movement. The indicator need to be agreed by consensus and
such consensus need to also agree on measurement of the indicators.
This is especially important because different sectors of the
constituency will achieve set goals at different times. Those
who achieve first should pull those who lag behind, while those
who lag behind should not become dependant on handouts.
If the led do not see the attributes the leader
preaches in the character of the leader such do not translate
into power that governance institutions can execute fairly.
| The disability community is faced
with insurmountable challenges only because the many leaders
within have not risen to the challenge. There are many young
men and women leaders; deaf, blind and physically disabled
etc with the humility required to learn from others, to gain
the strength required to built the structures that can see
more inclusive education, health employment and employment
opportunities. |

One such opportunity is found in the digital
world. This is the only single opportunity that if marshaled
effectively through education, training and building access structures
both in and out of school opens the persons with any disability
to limitless opportunities available in the world without any
traditional barrier. Disability-Kenya is an effort to walk the
digital talk.
We need to have consensus on actions and targets.
Such means we need to know before we begin the journey just how
to define success. How education health and employment challenges
can be overcome for persons with hearing, visual, physical, mental
and whatever disabilities in a developing country like Kenya with
all the challenges of electricity coverage, banking, communication
etc.
As we marshal our resources to build what
we need to reach there and cultivate the sacrifices are
involved to marshal forward motion. It is only then can we share
the feel-good experience when we reach sectors, industry or regional
goals. When a majority of sectors have made
benchmarks then significant populations would feel good
enough to toast to the dawn in Canaan.
