:: What do we need to reach there?
Changing the Value system:
Corruption is increasingly making justice not our
shield and defender. Corruption is not only to
target financial gain. It also includes targeting political gain.
That is why the MOU is a thorn in Kibaki’s Presidency.
So it is not about Truth and reconciliation for Goldenberg or
Anglo-leasing or President Moi’s or Kenyatta’s misdeeds.
It is about values that make people see the results of honest
hard work. Corruption is high because we give undue value
to quick gains whichever the means.
Few are satisfied with what they have as a vehicle
to what they desire. Many feel they have to have what another
has to be able to get what they desire.

The Kenyan Dream
if there is anything like that has been warped by corruption
of our value system. Where ability will
be what differentiates between any two kenyans. Where hard
word is rewarded on equal measure irrespective of physical
sensual or mental handicap... |
So anti-corruption is not the answer but the watchdog. The answer
lies in leadership values. The value system we
use to provide service to them who we serve builds or breaks.
Governance structures: Media, political
parties’ and civil society
Value systems is what will guide the interpretation
of the law by the courts, it is what will guide editorial directions,
it is what will settle political and economic competition
to enable democratic examples that can lead a country from where
we are to where we need to go.
Editorial partisanship especially of the kind that glorifies tribe
even by simple yet loud commissions and omissions are the building
blocks to where we don’t want to go.
The Narc government was built with significant
contribution by the civil society. Yet the same civil society
had turned against the principles and values we thought they know
more about than any other. Civil society is but
as a friend put it, was the best job available. This significantly
now includes religious organizations.
There is no difference between the PWD leader
who uses the little more information s/he has to get funds to
enrich his desires as the religious leader who uses his/her position
to gain political mileage.
They should show leadership from where they have been given opportunity
to serve. This is because our warped values system is
an indictment of the religious leadership. It does not
imply that because they call on the name of the Lord they would
automatically provide better political leadership.
Capitalism vs Socialism
The need to generating new capital using the resource
we have is as important as the need to be your brother’s
keeper. Oh God of all creation bless this land and nation,
justice be our shield and defender, may we dwell in unity peace
and liberty, prosperity be found within our borders.
| Capitalism and Socialism
are like a family they have to live together to make a nation.
They are different yet they are one. one always leads at any
given time depending on the needs of the family. It is only
then that the land and nation are blessed ... and prosperity
is found within our borders... |
|
Our national anthem is adequate to show direction
on where we have failed and where
we need to go in terms of economic solutions. Kenya
is a land that has all it needs to leave in peace and liberty.
But that is only possible if the justice is shield and defender
of each economic transaction each brother undertakes. It is only
then that prosperity can be found within our
borders…
While our leaders have used our dependency on
land perpetuate their stay in power, those who have had an opportunity
to go through education need to balance between the services that
are land intensive verses the services that are individual intensive.
This therefore brings to fore the kind of education we provide
and its relevance to productive use of the other resources.
Leadership in transitional Kenya now, may requires
the ability to build a majority of individuals into economic agents
able to optimize productivity outside land intensive economic
activities.
