Disability
is not Inability |

Trained first by KNDAEP in November 2005 with funding from NACC.
Some managed for second training by LVCT in 2006.
There is need for hospital's to be made deaf friendly by building
the capacity of the health care personnel not only in KSL but
also in physiotherapy, managing deafblind issues, and in general
being sensitive to the disability community in their administrative
structures.
I was in Nairobi Hospital the other day to interpret for a deaf
mother whose child was being treated and i noticed it had a toilet
specially for the persons with disabilities. I will find time
to follow it up next time to help show case it as an example for
other hospitals. I noticed it had ramps apart from staircase and
lifts. I wondered how many of the disabled can afford treatment
there. but am glad that such issues arebecoming standards in the
private sector.
We are hoping theat disabilitykenya website will provide a one
stop resource centre for as many hospitals to build disability-friendly
health facilities. All the hospitals will need is a internet-enabled
computer and administrative staff to access the site.
