The Sarova Hotel's Adjustments...

About 350 delegates were attending the Africa Blindness Forum believed to be the largest of its kind held in Nairobi in recent history. The theme of the conference is social inclusion and the topics include Education, training, employment and Sports.

This required special planning and reorganisation of various issues in relation to specific points of service in the magnificent hotel. Management working with an organisation for the blind (in this case KUB) laid out the plan and guidelines for staff Training as part of the preparations.

The main principle of the hotel's adjustment plan was to make the facility functionally accessible to persons with visual impairments.

This expressed itself in five functional service points to enable the provide quality services to the patrons. These include:
a) Reception b) Restaurants c) Accomodation d) Conference facilites. e) Interface.

:: The Reception Welcoming attitude....
:: Sarova Restaurants had a bon appetite feeling...

:: The Panafric accomodation with its goodnite smiles....
:: the Sarova conference facilities encouraged functional debate...
:: The Sarova Interface was seamless and blind-friendly...

The most improtant aspects of this specific success in volutary private sector adjustment was the sheer size of the number of delegates. 350 international patrons for a week would definately have an major impact in any hotel's balance sheet. Therefore the inducement to go the whole way in ensuring quality service was high.

This also opens opportunites for the hotel to build a niche as a blind friendly hotel and target local and international tourists to their services.
