:: Our 2007 signed Calender did not get a donor
OMEDA Enterprises developed a creative concept in calender publishing.
the concept involved signed dates from 1 to 30 for each of the
months using signs made by school children in uniform. The days
of the week were signed by what implies teachers of the schools
and weekends were signed by parents. All the signs were illustrated
in-house.
The objective was to come up with a calender that was also a teaching
aid. Most of the the children with disabilits do not have instruction
materials availabe for them either at home ot in school. The calender
not only teaches counting and days of the week to children with
hearing impairments in schools but also to teach parents.
The calender also selected several thematic issues related to
stigma met on children with disabilities starting from family,
community and national level. it advoicated for equal love for
CWD, equal access to health, equal access to free productive education,
etc. Such were presented in large illustrations on each month
orf the twelve pages. The calender proposal was for A2 paper size
prinitng 5,000 copies at about Kshs 180 a calender various quotaions
from various printers. Design costs totaled about Kshs. 300,000
While it is usually such a task to get funding for disability
related projects we were late in putting the concept into the
market for a donor to respond. we managed to try three organisations
including Barclays proposal
signed calender, Standard Chartered and UNICEF. but
because we did not know that calenders are projects that start
as early as August all of them gave us regrets.
It was an interesting learning experience and we hope somebody
would come up this year 2007 to support the project.
