JOSEPHINE SINYO: A SENIOR STATE COUNSEL AWARDED:
The only Senior State Counsel in Kenya with the visual Impairments was recently awarded for exemplary work by the Government.

Josephine Sinyo the Head of State Order of the Grand Warrior.
and a warrior indeed both within and without disability community in Kenya.

Josephine popularyly known within the disability Kenya simply by her second name Sinyo, has been for a long time a leader , a worrior of the grand order representing many within and without the disability sector.

She has been a member of the UDPK having led the organisation through some very turbulent times successfully. She is best known for her role as a nominated Member of Parliament during the Moi Era. One thing that many in the disability cry for is that we in the disability sector have been without a clear representative in the legistlative house during the five years that President Kibaki has been in Power. Many see Mrs Sinyo as a representation of this quest for representation. Sinyo the grand warrior was best seen during the days when she was out that when she is within state system.

I met her recently outside her office at Kenya Re Building and she was the same charming lady with a such a beautiful smile.

Josephine Sinyo the Senior State Counsel is less publicised. Her work within the corridors of Justice may be more related to her position as a state counsel than her disability. She has done less public advocasy or beeen in the forefront when issues of justice and disability have been in need of clarity.

But that is what public service does to many of us especially when what you may end up saying may be construed to mean being against your employer.

Despite the tough working conditions she may find herself especially in relation to representation she is quite a role model to many women living with disabilities not only in kenya but in Africa as a whole.

President Kibaki is however known for rewarding many in the system who for a long time have not been seen though representing critical cogs in the national fabric. Through the Justice and Constitutional Affiairs Ministry and the eloquent fellow learned friend Minister for Justice and Costitutional Affairs Ms Martha Karua, presented the Head of State of the Grand Warrior Award to Josephine recently.
