::World AIDS Day 2006 Celebrations.
1st December 2006
The World AIDs Day celebrations this
year were held all over the country. All constituencies in Kenya
have received funding from the government through CACC (Constituency
AIDS commitees). Part of this funding disbursed by NACC
is used to finance the annual event held on December 1st. This
year's event was held at the Kenyatta Intrnational Conference
Center (KICC). Events were various at the premier conference facility.
Various community and national organisations presented their activities
and works. The Nairobi Deaf VCT was there to
represent the Deaf community among others.
What did you celebrate or reflect?
This year's theme is keeping the promise. We need to look behind
and find out if we are keeping the promise. are we keeping the
promise to Abstain from sex? are we keeping keeping the promise
to use a condom every time we have sex? are we keeping the promise
to be faithful to one sexual partner? ARE WE KEEPING THE PROMISE?
It is a day that behind all the celebrations we ought to sit
and reflect on our behaviour. how many of us even great members
of the AIDS team and we are not keeping the promise? How many
of us after the celebrations still had sex the same night without
a condom?
Hey its time to walk the talk. Its time we do what we preach.
its time we had people who lead by example. from family level
to the highest office. let us pray that this scrouge does not
destroy us.
including us the disabled
The above includes us the people living with disabilities. We
need to seek information that strenghtens our resolve to keep
the promise. If you must have sex, pleas use a condom, just like
if you must drink please do not drive. we must not think that
AIDS is a disease for those without disabilties... or that AIDS
is our destiny.
We who are living with AIDs we are better of. AIDS is better known
now, AIDS is better controlled now, let us not destroy our faith
by unnecccesary worry. get on with your life. the future is brighter
than it was yesterday. ARVs
are cheaper and more available than they were five years ago.
The future is brighter and more assuring.
we can avert the destruction the disease is causing simply by
keeping the promise.
